Pedro de Escobar (c.1465 – after 1535) was a Portuguese composer of the Renaissance, mostly active in Spain. He was one of a earliest & virtually all skilled composers of polyphony in Spain whose music has survived.
Life
He was innate at Oporto, Portugal, but nothing is known of his life until he entered a service of Isabella of Castile in 1489. He wwhen a singer inside her chapel for x years, & clearly was working as a composer too; additionally he was the just member of her chapel described within court records as Portuguese. Within 1499 he returned to his native Portugal, but around 1507 received an offer of employment, which he accepted, as a master diamond state capilla at a cathedral around Seville.
When there he got charge of the choirboys, getting to choose care of their room & board additionally to with to teach the children to sing; he complained of moo remuneration, & one of these days resigned. Inside 1521 he wwhen working in Portugal, as mestre district attorney capela for Cardinal Dom Affonso. His career seems to own ended badly, notwithstanding, for the final record of his life occurs as mention within the document of 1535 that he was an alcoholic & sleep in squalidness. He died around Évora.
